1883 Type 1 Liberty Head Nickel
This is TYPE 1 w/NO CENT on the reverse, the TYPE 2 has the word "CENT" on it. In 1883 they produced this style 1st not thinking of the crime ahead, hoodlums were trying to pass these Nickels off as $5 pieces back in the day, they would dip them and gold plate them and because it doesn't have the word CENT on the reverse they got away with it. This cause the US MINT to stop the press and remake them with the word CENT (TYPE 2) on the back to stop crime. This Nickel later earn the nickname "GANGSTA NICKEL".
