Dune - Frank Herbert (Chilton, 1965) 1st BCE early print, “U20” gutter code

Early (not numbered) printing of the first book club edition hardcover copy of Dune by Frank Herbert (Chilton Book Company, 1965). Gutter code, “U20”. Hard to find early printing of this beloved science fiction masterpiece, the first in the series. Original red boards before the switch to brown/burgundy boards on later printings of this edition. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with rubbing/scuffing to faces and shelf wear around the edges - including chipping, creasing and small tears. Faint liquid staining towards bottom edge of jacket spine. Sun fading to jacket spine. Boards are straight and clean but with corners and spine ends bumped. Dent to center of top edge of front board. Binding is firm and spine remains fairly straight. Tanning pages that are otherwise clean and unmarked. See photos for condition.
