In iPanzer '44 the player takes control of one of three tanks, specifically, the American M4A3 "Sherman", a Russian T-34-85 medium tank or the German PzKw V "Panther". The game features control at any of three levels including inside or outside the tank or from a battlefield map. Various options are available that allow you to operate the tanks from varying perspectives (gunner, commander, driver) and control your missions from a single tank or as commander of an entire platoon of three to five tanks. Control doesn't end there, however, as you can also command at a Company battlegroup level that includes other tanks, armored cars, infantry, anti-tank guns, tank destroyers or artillery support.

As the title shows, iPanzer '44 deals with World War II tank warfare as it was fought by the standard medium tanks in use in 1944. These were the versatile and multi-purposed tanks used in a vast array of major battle and campaign missions. All aspects of tank warfare are simulated with specific focus on maneuverability, weaponry, armor and toughness. You can play from the perspective of either a Russian, German or American viewpoint.

iPanzer '44 contains 80 realistic combat areas plus the option to create randomly generated battlegrounds and battles. Four major campaigns are available including the famous Battle of the Bulge from either an American or German viewpoint and Eastern Front battles as either a Russian or German commander.
