  • Antique Medicine Bottle / Apothecary / Pharmaceutical Bottle, Emerson Drug Co Bromo - Seltzer Baltimore, MD, Cobalt Blue Glass, Old Bottles, AMB Lug Top, Druggist Advertising / Memorabilia Collectible, (Discontinued)
  • Made in USA
  • Antique: 1905 - 1920's
  • Details:  This is a very nice antique apothecary bottle, with embossed lettering: "Bromo-Seltzer Emerson Drug Co. Baltimore, MD", (now empty).  It has a lovely cobalt blue glass color, looks molded by automatic bottle machine (ABM), has 2 seams that go all the way to the top, plus a lug closure (separated, protruding threads) and a number on the bottom "15".  Based on all this, we dated this bottle between 1905 to the 1920's, however, we are not experts, so please do your own research if the bottle date is important to you.  We didn't clean it since most enjoy the patina created over time.  This bottle will make a nice gift for a bottle collector, a history buff, or for display.  A collection of colorful old bottles makes a cool display on a windowsill or used as vases for flowers.
  • Dimensions:  5.0 inches Tall, 2.0 inches in Diameter
  • Material:  Blue Glass
  • Condition:  Antique - Used. Very Good Antique Condition.  There is a large "dip" on the side, looks like a manufacturing flaw where the molten glass left a gap in the mold, does not look like a chip to us (photographed for your review).  We didn't clean this bottle since many like the patina of old glass.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.

Bromo-Seltzer was introduced by Captain Isaac Edward Emerson circa 1888 in Baltimore Maryland.  Captain Emerson (1859–1931), created this as a powder form headache medicine which became a very popular drug, not only used for headaches but also for upset stomach, hangovers and other health issues.  In 1907 Emerson realized he needed a larger output of these glass bottles and decided to open his own glass factory.  In 1907, he opened the Maryland Glass Company alongside Philip I. Heuisler who ran the newly formed company.  Maryland glass went on to produce other blue bottles and jars for products such as: Milk of Magnesia, Vicks Vapor Rub, Noxzema, etc.  In 1975 the sodium bromide was removed from the U.S. market due to the high toxicity called "bromide intoxication", which caused severe health issues.  Maryland Glass Corporation of Baltimore, filed bankruptcy and closed in 1981.
