This book is a collection of imaginatively crafted lessons geared towards nonspeaking and unreliably speaking children and tweens, practitioners, CRPs, and parents who use Spelling to Communicate (S2C) – a method that teaches the purposeful motor skills needed to spell on a letterboard or keyboard.Lessons are used in S2C to provide motor practice for pointing and typing, while presuming competence and engaging the brain educationally through age-appropriate lessons. The lessons in this book cover five themes. The lessons are crafted to promote conversations and learning. They incorporate visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile activities to engage the body in purposeful motor movements.Each lesson contains informative and engaging paragraphs on a particular topic. The paragraph is followed by color-coded questions that allow a speller to progress from closed-ended to open-ended communication, building endurance and stamina to spell despite motor and regulation challenges.Nonspeaking (formerly called nonverbal) people, minimally speaking people, and people who have scripted and/or unreliable speech have great success communicating with S2C.
