Pair of two ironstone side plates in hand painted floral pattern No. 8, made by Hicks and Meigh of Shelton, Staffordshire, England between 1812 and 1822, circa 1815. These plates features beautifully notched edges to the rim.
Hand-painted, bold enamels over a lightly printed outlines makes for a striking design.
The Coat of Arms on the back of the plate denotes the reign of George III from 1801 with the arms of England occupying the first and fourth quarters, the arms of Scotland the second, and the arms of Ireland the third. For the house of Hanover, there was an escutcheon overall (centre shield).
These plates have a printed Royal Arms mark to the base with STONE CHINA and No. 8 below. This is a recorded mark used by Hicks and Meigh. Excellent antique condition - no chips, cracks or crazing.
