brand new App-enabled control: The Sphero BB-8 connects to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. While the original Star Wars App-Enabled Droids by Sphero app was discontinued in 2021, the droid can still be driven and programmed using the Sphero Edu app. Autonomous patrol: BB-8 can be set to patrol its surroundings on its own and will develop a "personality" based on your interactions. Holographic simulation: The companion app offers augmented reality features where users can explore holographic environments, such as the interior of the Millennium Falcon, with the BB-8 droid and an optional Droid Trainer accessory. Voice command recognition: BB-8 recognizes and reacts to voice commands. "Watch With Me" feature: When watching a Star Wars film, BB-8 will react to the on-screen events with sounds and movements. Wireless charging: The droid charges wirelessly by placing it on the included inductive charging base. Force band compatibility: The BB-8 is also compatible with a Force Band accessory (typically sold separately), which allows you to control the droid with wrist gestures. Reactive personality: BB-8's attitude and actions are said to evolve as you interact with it.
