The ATUD and TUD expanding take-up devices accommodate rod diameters from 1/2" to 2" and shrinkage up to 3". These screw-style devices offer minimal displacement. During installation, ensure the activation pin is pointing up and towards the building's interior. The pin can be pulled after the nut is tightened onto the top bearing plate, but it must be pulled before the building is fully loaded. Keep the shrinkwrap on until the pin is ready to be pulled. Before activating an ATUD, confirm the pin on the take-up device below has been pulled. The ATUD and TUD are now UL-qualified through-penetration firestop systems, receiving F (flame) and T (temperature) ratings when installed with the appropriate Simpson Strong-Tie steel bearing plates, eliminating the need for additional fire resistance material at the hole in the plate.
