U.S. Military Surplus
Luggage tags that were extremely popular from the late 1930s to the early 1940s.
Made of nickel, they were sold at PXs and other locations with designs for various departments such as the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Medical.
As indicated by the "RETURN TO" notation, the return address was stamped in the ruled area, serving as a return tag.
These were functional tags used by the U.S. Post Office, not for fashion or decoration.
This one is for the U.S. Navy (USN).
Features a USN anchor emblem with a rope.
A blank item with no markings on either side.
Deadstock, brand new, unused.
I think it can be attached to travel bags and suitcases, or used as a dog tag, necklace, or keychain.
It seems that both silver and gold colors were available for all designs, but this is the particularly rare gold color.
