Vintage Black Clay Handmade Trinket Box

Vintage black clay trinket box with colorful etched and glazed painted design. The previous own said she purchased this many years ago while traveling, but she couldn’t remember where. She guessed either from Africa or Mexico. I do know that Oaxaca, Mexico is known for their black clay pottery, but I haven’t seen any quite like this. It has a unique, semi rectangular shape and bezeled edges. It has an etched with geometrical diamond patterns, then painted and and glazed vibrant colors, including, pink, marigold, coral, orange a light mustard yellow. The edges are black, reach really makes this piece pop. It has a knob on the lid and is quite heavy for its size. It is signed under the lid, “C”, by the artist. It is heavy for its size, which is approximately 4.25” x 3”. mL
