Notable for its vivid coloration in purple, white, orange, black, and gold,this vintage collectible hand-carved and hand-painted decorative wooden demon mask from Bali looks as fresh and new as he day it was painted. It is characterized by gold flames trimmed in black and orange-red and gold filigree above its startling black ,wide-pupiled. concentric-circled. hallucinogenic eyes and vibrant purple color. Below the eyes, the mouth at the bottom half of the mask is an elegant design with protruberant, upthrusting tusks and downward slasihing incisors with a row of long straight white teeth between them. The dmon's curled tongue is fully extended and is painted with a mysterious symbol and what is perhaps a representation of hair on the tongue. Flared nostrils, a line of gold filigree below the nose, and bared gums above the teeth complete the look. It is altogether a very striking and pristine work of vintage folk art from Indonesia.
